A person can get Canadian citizenship either by naturalization or by birth.

To be a Citizen by birth a child should be born on Canadian land, airspace, waters and Canadian registered ships and aircraft. Citizenship for the child is still obtained if parent(s) were/are not PR/CC or are in Canada illegally. If parents or Canadian and are working as crown servant abroad then their children will be automatically Canadian citizens.

Person must have resided in Canada as a PR for 3 years (1,095 days) in the past 5 years before applying with no minimum number of days per year required. A person must have filled income tax for each of three years. A maximum of 1 year (365 days) can be counted if the person was in Canada as a TR or PP before obtaining PR. 2 days as TR counts as the same as 1 day as a PR in this circumstance.
