Canada have enormous amount of job opportunities with really good wages and excellent working environment conditions but to work in Canada an immigrant needs a work permit. Work permit can be of three types:
- postgraduation work permit
- open work permit
- closed work permit or LMIA based work permit
To get a Post-Graduation Work Permit a candidate should meet following conditions:
Post-Graduation Work Permit
- Have graduated from a designated Canadian post-secondary institution (ESL/FSL/General interest/Preparatory programs not eligible).
- Distance learning is eligible if it was less than 50% of the program.
- Must apply within 180 days after written confirmation of completed studies and have a valid study permit at some point during these 180 days.
A person can get three years of work permit, after completing a program of two years or more.
If a person have studied more than eight months but less than two years, then generally work permit of same length of program is issued.
Open Work Permit
A person may apply for open work permit if
- He/ she is a Canadian permanent resident applicant and have applied for a job in Canada
- He/she is a spouse of an international student or a skilled worker in Canada
- He/ she is a Canadian PR’s dependent family member
- He/she have a valid temporary residence permit
A closed work permit is also called employer specific work permit or LMIA based work permit. For this an employer must get a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment and then only the employer is eligible to hire candidates from outside Canada. Person after receiving work permit must work for a particular employer for a predefined duration of time.
